LED Streetlights Prove Hit With Local Authorities

With Cheshire West and Chester's councils realising the benefits of changing their district streetlight to LED, it is becoming evident that LED streetlights are gaining in popularity fast.  Providing safe and reliable lighting for the local residents is an issue that all local councils and landowners need to take seriously.  Having the area well lit reduces the chances of accidents occurring, and helps to deter criminals hoping to hide in the cover of darkness. There are so many benefits for businesses it is easy to see why more and more organisations are choosing to make this investment in LED lights.

LED Lights Reduce Carbon Emissions

One of the biggest problems with conventional street lights, and indeed any form of old style lighting, is they are really not good for the environment.  The amount of energy they need to use in order to produce the desired lighting result, means that there is one big byproduct and that is heat.  Heat is classed as a carbon emission and is not at all good for the environment.  The pressure is on businesses to offer a more environmentally friendly experience. LED lighting uses less energy which in turn means their heat emissions are low. They are simply much better for the planet.

LED Lights Reduce Bills

It is also worth pointing out that because LED street lights use less energy, resulting in bills which are significantly lower.  They can offer savings of between 40-90% on existing energy costs, a saving that cannot be overlooked. But it is not only energy bills that are lowered. LED streetlights also have a lifespan of over 20 years.  Most current streetlights need to be replaced every three years, so using streetlights that have LEDs will seriously lower the maintenance costs associated with running public lighting.

LED Lights Reduce Light Waste

Another key benefit of LED streetlights is the quality of light.  Traditionally streetlights offer a very yellow light, which is not really good for eyes and can actually reduce visibility at night.  However, LED lights offer a white light that is much closer to daylight and better for the eyes.   It also reduces light spill, as it has a very focused light area, and only illuminates the intended area, not the whole living room of a local resident.  When an LED lightbulb finally reaches the end of its lifespan, it doesn't suddenly go out or stop working which again adds to the safety aspect.  Rather than suddenly plunging the area into darkness an LED bulb will start to dim, giving the maintenance crew plenty of warning that action is needed.

With so many benefits on offer it is easy to see why local authorities are choosing to spend the money on upgrading their streetlight systems. With so much to be gained from LED lights it’s no surprise that many councils and businesses n the UK have made the switch.
